About the Debate
The Debate brings together 10 of India’s most powerful and articulate intellects, who will debate, in a structured format, a motion that is of great relevance today to millions of Indians.
The motion is:
"India's Growth Story Cannot Afford Another Era of Coalition Politics"
The Debating Society of India and the BW Businessworld Group are jointly presenting the event. The Debating Society of India has been in the forefront of organizing national and international Debate events that have reached a national audience.
Background To The Motion
The founding idea of India at independence was as a secular, pluralistic and multicultural entity, all this wrapped in the political idea of Democracy, the economic idea of State Capitalism and the foreign policy of non alignment. The recent years appear to see a new construct of India emerging, based on the tenets of a move towards Hinduvta, a uniform civil code, a stronger nationalism and a more muscular foreign policy. The Debate will examine whether the time has come for a new idea of India to take root.
