As the cities are growing and booming, the challenges lying within are greater. There are resources that need to be strategically utilised for keeping the Cities Smarter in the age of Next Gen Technologies. The Sustainable Urban Development Ecosystem worth living in presupposes nuanced attention on few core developmental factors like Energy supply, seamless mobility, spatial planning, security and safety for the last mile citizen.

Bringing Smartness into a city entails diversified understanding. It could be smart design, smart utilities, smart housing, smart mobility, smart technology, etc. People migrate to cities primarily in search of employment and economic activities beside better quality of life. Therefore, a Smart City for its sustainability needs to offer economic activities and employment opportunities to a wide section of its residents, regardless of their level of education, skills or income levels.

The Government of India has endeavoured to define Smart Cities as the ones that are equipped with smart (intelligent) physical, social, institutional and economic infrastructure while ensuring centrality of citizens in a sustainable environment. At the core of this, lies that meaningful and joyful living of the citizens.

Situated on the banks of Godavari and home to Shri Ram Chandra during his tenure in exile, Nashik is considered as one of the holiest destination in the country, with a focus on modern day mandate of transforming into a tech-enabled Sustainable Smart City. Under the aegis of Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Shri Uddhav Thackeray and Commissioner, Nashik Municipal Corporation, Shri Radhakrishna Game, Nashik has proven to be a first implementing Smart City in India with a national rank of 19, in terms of conversion ratio of projects.

With more than 15 lakhs of population within its boundaries, Nashik is one of the fast growing Future Smart City with immense scope of development and possibilities in itself. The city displays significant trends in urban development and lifestyle development among its citizens, with a real-time approach in enabling a Sustainable City.
